Support

We're here when you need us.

Belong Journal is a small, hand-built app from a one-person team. Every email reaches a real human — usually Matt — and we aim to reply within a couple of days.

Last updated: April 20, 2026

The fastest way to reach us is email. Tell us what you were trying to do, what happened instead, and (if you can) include a screenshot.

Account & sign-in

Getting in (and back in)

How do I create an account?

Download Belong Journal from the App Store, open the app, and choose Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. That's it — no password to remember. Your identity provider handles the secure part, and Belong only sees your name and email.

Which sign-in methods are supported?

Apple and Google. We don't use email/password sign-in because passwordless providers are safer and one less thing for you to manage.

Apple or Google sign-in is failing.
  • Make sure you have a network connection — sign-in needs to reach Apple or Google.
  • For Apple: ensure you're signed into iCloud in iOS Settings.
  • For Google: try signing out of the Google app and back in, then retry.
  • If it still won't go through, email hello@belongjournal.ai with the error message and we'll dig in.
I switched Apple IDs (or Google accounts). Can I get my old entries back?

Your entries are tied to whichever account you originally signed in with. Sign in with that original account and your archive comes back instantly. If you've lost access to the original account, email us — depending on the situation we can usually help you migrate.

I'm not getting sign-in or verification emails.

Check your spam folder first. Apple and Google handle their own verification emails directly — if those aren't arriving, the issue is on the provider side. For anything Belong sends (waitlist confirmations, account notifications), email hello@belongjournal.ai and we'll resend by hand.

Subscription & billing

What's free, what's paid, and how to change it

What does the free tier include?

The free tier gives you the core journaling experience: voice and text entries across all five entry types (journal, prayer, brain dump, dream, gratitude), transcription, and a limited number of AI reflections and chat messages per period. The 7-day Belong Challenge unlocks every feature for free.

What does Belong Pro unlock?
  • Unlimited daily reflections
  • Weekly, monthly, and yearly reports
  • Unlimited AI chat about your entries
  • Audio playback of reflections (text-to-speech)
  • The full insights tab — mood patterns, themes over time
How much does it cost?

Monthly is $19.99/month, annual is $99.99/year (works out to about $8.33/month), and a one-time lifetime plan is $299. Founders Club members locked in $9.99/month during the launch window. See the pricing page for the latest details.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — the 7-day Belong Challenge gives you full access to every Pro feature. No credit card required.

How do I cancel my subscription?

All subscriptions are billed through Apple. To cancel:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Belong Journal, then Cancel Subscription.

You'll keep Pro access until the end of the current billing period. Apple has a more detailed walkthrough here.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one through reportaproblem.apple.com or follow Apple's refund instructions. If you're running into trouble, email us and we'll help advocate for the request.

I subscribed but Pro features are still locked.
  • Inside the app, open More → Subscription and tap Restore Purchases.
  • Quit and reopen the app so the subscription state can refresh.
  • Make sure you're signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe.
  • Still stuck? Email hello@belongjournal.ai with your account email and we'll sort it out.
I can't afford the subscription. Are there scholarships?

Yes — we keep a quiet path open for anyone who needs it. Email hello@belongjournal.ai with a sentence or two about your situation. No proof of hardship required, no awkward forms.

What happens to my entries if I cancel?

Your data stays yours. Your entries, recordings, and past reflections remain in your account — you just go back to free-tier limits for new AI generation. You can read, export, or delete anything anytime, even from the free tier.

Your privacy & data

Where your entries live, and who can see them

The short version: only you. The long version is in the Privacy Policy — this is the plain-language tour.

Where are my journal entries stored?

Entries are stored in our Supabase Postgres database (US, us-west-1 region) with row-level security enabled, which means the database itself enforces that no other user can read your data. Voice recordings live in protected Supabase Storage with access tied to your account.

Is Belong end-to-end encrypted?

No, and we want to be straightforward about that. Belong is encrypted in transit and at rest — everything moves over HTTPS/TLS, and stored data and recordings are encrypted on disk. AI features need to read the text of your entries to generate reflections, which is incompatible with true end-to-end encryption today. Row-level security and our zero-training policy with AI providers are how we protect your privacy in practice.

Does Anthropic or OpenAI train AI models on my journal entries?

No. Both Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (text-to-speech) operate under API data usage policies that prohibit training on customer data. We never opt your entries into model training, and we don't use them to train any model ourselves.

Who at Belong can read my entries?

Day-to-day, no one. Your entries are protected by row-level security, and Matt (the founder) does not browse user content. The only time we'd ever look at an entry is if you explicitly ask us to — for example, while debugging an issue you've emailed us about — and only the entry you point us at.

Are voice recordings transcribed in the cloud?

No — transcription happens entirely on your iPhone using WhisperKit. Your audio doesn't leave your device for transcription. Only the resulting text (and the recording itself, if you keep it) gets uploaded to your account.

What happens to my data if Belong shuts down?

We'd give you advance notice and time to export everything. We'd rather close down responsibly than disappear with anyone's journals.

Export & delete

Take it with you, or take it down

How do I export my entries?

Open the app and go to More → Data & Privacy → Export Your Data. We generate a copy of your entries, transcripts, and reports as a file you can save anywhere. Need a different format than what's offered? Email hello@belongjournal.ai and we'll do it by hand.

How do I delete a single entry?

In the History tab, swipe left on the entry (or open it and tap the menu in the top right) and choose Delete. The entry, its transcript, audio, and any AI reflections built on it are removed from our database.

How do I delete my whole account?

In the app, go to More → Data & Privacy → Delete Account. After you confirm, we permanently remove:

  • Your profile and account record
  • Every journal entry, voice recording, and transcript
  • All AI-generated reflections, reports, and chat history
  • Your memory bank and any extracted profile data

Some data may persist in encrypted database backups for up to 30 days before being permanently removed. If you have an active paid subscription, cancel it through Apple before deleting your account so you don't keep getting billed.

I deleted my account by mistake. Can you bring it back?

Email us within a few days and we may be able to restore from backup. After about a month, the data is permanently gone — that's the trade-off for actually deleting things rather than soft-deleting them.

Troubleshooting

When something feels broken

I'm not getting morning reflections.
  • Open the app daily — reflections need a few recent entries to be generated. If you haven't journaled in a while, there's nothing for the AI to reflect on yet.
  • Check More → Notifications in the app and make sure push notifications are enabled.
  • Check iOS Settings → Notifications → Belong Journal and confirm Allow Notifications is on.
  • Confirm your timezone in the More tab matches where you actually are — reflections fire on a 5 AM local-time schedule.
The microphone won't record / I get a permission error.

Open iOS Settings → Belong Journal and make sure Microphone is turned on. If it was off and you turn it on, fully quit and reopen the app so iOS hands the permission through cleanly.

My recording stopped or got cut off.

Long recordings are most often interrupted by the phone going to sleep or another audio app taking over (a phone call, a navigation prompt, etc.). Belong tries to stay alive in the background, but if iOS reclaims the audio session a recording can stop. If a recording gets cut, the audio captured up to that point is saved and you can tap into the entry to continue with a new recording.

My streak disappeared or counted wrong.

Streaks roll over at midnight in your local timezone. If your timezone is wrong in More → Preferences, the cutoff can land at the wrong time. Set the right timezone and your future streaks will track correctly. If a past streak looks wrong, email us with your account email and the date in question and we'll investigate.

Reflection audio won't play.
  • Audio playback is a Pro feature — make sure you're subscribed.
  • Check that your phone isn't muted and the volume is up.
  • If audio still won't load, the signed playback URL may have expired. Pull to refresh the report or reopen the app, and we'll generate a fresh URL.
Chat is taking forever or feels unresponsive.

Chat replies stream from the AI provider in real time. If your connection is spotty, the response can stall or fail mid-stream. Try sending again on a stable connection. Free-tier users get a limited number of chat messages per day — if you've hit that limit, the app will tell you.

I'm seeing an error message I don't understand.

Take a screenshot, then send it to hello@belongjournal.ai with a one-line description of what you were doing. Errors usually have a simple cause once we can see them — we'll figure it out and tell you what happened.
